Some witnesses thought he was terse & surly,
while others swore he acted โkinda squirrelly.โ
All agreed his build was stout: โHeavyset & โฆ..!

The Bard said life is sound and fury,
Full of commotion and hurly-burly.
And so it is,
A daily whizz --
Next year it won't matter, so don't worry!

Welcome, Owen, to my hint style,
although a bit more giving than I might dare.

In the midst of life, when everything is fine,
There are Karens among us who continue to whine.
If their complaint isn't heard by
a clerk in the store,
They demand to see the manager for an encore!
They like to complain, it's their fav indoor sport!
They complain if they see an unsavory sort!
They complain if they see a hyphen, or apostrophe,
Or a quote mark used where it shouldn't ought to be!
She or he has the list all sewn up,
A litany of things they don't think up to snuff.
They'll carp about things and people, and so on,
They'll irritate people till they want Karens to be gone!
"Dinner Time"
In the midst of doing homework,
the kids began to whine
when they had to quickly stop,
because it was time to dine.
This put a hyphen in their plan
but at least the dinner was savory.
It had been cooked by a woman next door
who was kind and very neighborly.
And so their evening ended in a glow
that did many pleasures together sew.
Sand Oh (No)
In the midst of the hurly-burly,
It is unsavoury to whine.
But if you are so inclined,
Donโt be too surly.
Build a high fence around your castle on the beach,
And keep it out of mischiefโs reach.
Woohoo! Woohoo! I got today's Wordle in just a single try, thanks to Ol' Man Keith's helpful hint:

Your help is never surly, OMK, and always just a great help!
Glad to be of help, Misty, though today you could get Shakespearean confirmation from both Owen & CEh!.
Your poem speaks of a family so well organized that even their time to whine ends with the dining phase of their routine.
CEh's poem, OTOH, speaks of inuring one's entire castle against such negative aspects of life.
But do these "negatives" matter on their own? Owen draws our attention to the "Karens among us" who "carp about things," thus turning small irritants into larger ones.
Aargh...

Thanks again for your kind comment, OMK. Working MIDST, WHINE, HYPHEN, SAVORY, and SEW into a story and a verse is never easy.
I meant to comment earlier but was waylaid.
Owen & OMK give us great W poems. Congrats Misty on your solve.
Enjoyed all the different slants on whining today (as already mentioned by OMK). The haiku with a whine for fine vine wine (no whining here in the vineyards of Niagara) and a sweet-savoury taste reminded me of the tasting menus at those wineries.
(Did you all find my hidden -)?
Owen- I do find it annoying to be around whiners.
We have a Karen in the extended family - no she is not a whiner, that is her name. Iโm not sure how whining became associated with that name.
Misty- Yes, whining among children can often be a sign of hunger, as I discovered with my own children. What a good neighbour to provide a savoury meal. ( I liked the savoury and neighbourly rhyme. And I have noticed myself adding all those Uโs to correct the American spelling. LOL).
With the long legged bird sent by the robot
Not sure, Wilbur, which bird you have in mind, or for what purpose, as the usual Bot-word, CRANE, would have registered the โRโ of todayโs Wโand yet your starter shows nothing of the kind.
Perhaps you want us to not count your first attempt against you?
Very well.
We can see that CRANE might have been your 2nd try.
But still, thereโs no shame in scoring at par.
