The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.
Comments are welcomed!
Do not explicitly reveal any of the actual answer words until after closing time, but embedding them surreptitiously in comment sentences is encouraged.

Washington was highly respected,
So from him much was expected.
A winner in war for Independence,
A legacy for his soldier's descendants.

Patrick Henry was renowned for a tirade
A promise of life for freedom trade.
A deal that Nathan Hale's neck paid,
And would again, he could leave his grave!

These were men, not muffins, one and all!
Answered the ding-dang of Liberty's call!
Fighting a revolution that was over-due,
Founding a new Nation as Fathers true!

I needed help with three Jumble answers this morning, and you neat poem helped me get them all, Owen--many thanks. And I was then able to get the delightful and funny solution without any problem. Helped get my Sunday off to a good start. Have a good week coming up, Owen. I'll miss you and the other Jumble crew until I get back from my trip.

Have a great trip, Misty!
Remind us where you are heading. Was it another place in the southwest?

Meanwhile, if you (or anyone reading this) would care to drop a hint as to this solution, I would be ever-so-grateful. I have all the clue words, but this is the first time in a lo-ong time that the solution has me so stuck.
I think I have the final word, but that could well be my problem. Sometimes we get so enamored of a partial answer that we don't want to give it up.

Never mind!
I found the answer--after learning that these are the wrong clue words. "Muffin" and "Ding" in today's poem made me scratch my head. I wanted those letters, but couldn't squeeze them from the posted six words.
