It can be a tough life to be a dove.
You're expected to be a "symbol of love".
But you're also a pigeon, a "feathered rat",
You get shoddier treatment than a bat!

Sure, I look curvy while eating french fries.
But one burns a lot of ounces when one flies!
And I'm not a weakling in the harsh wintertime
When other birds migrate to a milder clime.

Why, I've got an uncle in the signal corps
Who performed as a patriot in time of war!
A cousin is an athlete, thru the sky she shoves!
She's the fastest racer in a drove of doves!

The jumble was not too difficult, especially for a Friday. I saw both versions of the cartoon; yours seems much more directly related to the solution.

Fun poem, Owen, many thanks! I got the first three Jumble words and the solution, but had trouble with the fourth word--and there it was in your poem--again, many thanks. I loved this Jumble because I have such happy memories of drive-in movies from my teens. Had my first "making out" experience in one, and it was pleasant and enjoyable, a good start to romantic life. Of course, I can't remember the movie, as you may imagine. Anyway, it's nice to be back from my pleasant trip to the Grand Canyon with friends I've known for decades. Glad to be able to re-connect with Crossword and Jumble friends.

Ok I've had my caffeine, Owen has come through much like Fisk and Carbo in the following:

The weather had gotten milder that night in '75
Lynn had crashed into the fence on Griffey's drive
It seemed the Reds had drained out the last ounce of Boston's sweat
Shoddy defense, Borbon's curves who'd've placed a bet
On delirium in bean town, a deaf'ning roar
For Carbo, Bernie Carbo's drive had tied the score
Evans catch had saved us, now Carlton was at bat
Darcy pitched one too far in,k'rash, and that was that

Happy Summer, everyone!

Good to see you back, Misty!
I think Sandy's right, that Owen's picture is more "directly related" to the solution than the newspaper cartoon.
It was so direct it gave me the solution before I even started on the clue words. Mais chacun à son goût, it's a matter of taste: I prefer to dig a little harder to reach the result.

Thanks OMK. I thought one of the words was BRISK hence the famous FISK HR.
