The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.

Not sleepy, but enjoying my waking rest & time to solve the jumble.
The superhero solution strikes me as a playful jest, a lilting joke, an effervescent gag-- Ah, a merry jape-bubble!

Sorry, OMK, but although the clues and solution came easily, I thought today's pun was a fairly weak effort. Still hoping for a poem to brighten the day. Are you ok, Owen?
We miss you, Owen. I needed your poem to help me figure out that third Jumble word, and without it had to cheat and look up the solution. Don't think I would have gotten it on my own or without the poem's help. But I loved the cartoon with the strange, wild costumes, and Ol'Man Keith, your comment this morning made me smile and laugh--you are clearly in superb form on this day. I've had a bit of a slow start and for the first time in eons still haven't gotten the Kenken. But have things to do today, including lunch with a friend, and had best get going.
The dam was due to open soon,
Ceremonies were to start at noon.
The strutting magpie, on a birch,
Would emcee from his bark perch.
The beaver, with a ritual grace
The final stick put into place.
Then with his loudest flapping tail
Flatly declare it would not fail!
The pond would then with water fill,
And make the lodge an island hill.
Very well cloaked, and hard to reach
The den Would be incapable of breach.
Sorry to be so late. After setting up the illo last night (the costume designer who's a major character in "The Incredibles"), I just wasn't feeling too great. Nothing specific, just a general malaise. Still, I went to sleep until time to take my wife to work this morning. Wrote the poem even tho it's so late to kill time while waiting for a grocery delivery. Next up: fill in the LAT crossword!
So glad to see the poem, which is entertaining as usual. I especially like the second verse.
Sandy ~
I am a little puzzled by your "Sorry." Please know you are free to have a different response w/o apology.
I gather you did not notice the embedded hint...
Owen ~
Glad to see you're well, sir.
I wish there were a way you could relax & take time off at your leisure -- w/o our immediately starting to worry.
We have become so spoiled, so used to the regularity of your enormous contributions, that when you miss a beat all the alarm bells go off.
It must be some sort of weaning process. We may be getting a little better about it.

OMK, I did notice your hint, but thought you were also complimenting the jumble solution. The "sorrry" was a pro forma beginning to what I assumed was a disagreement. Frustrating sometimes how meaning is not fully conveyed in writing.
Thanks for the explanation, Sandy.
Yes, it sounds like you were objecting to my characterization of the solution. What I am saying is there is no disagreement when two people have different reactions.
It "strikes me" as delightful; for you it does not. Neither response is contingent upon the other. Neither alters the other.

Yo, OMK, I don't want to beat the proverbial dead horse, but I was using the word in one of its senses, which is merely a lack of consensus. That is, not an opposition, but simply another point of view, which is pretty much what you just described. Perhaps my use of the word "sorry" made my statement sound oppositional. Again, writing needs tone of voice, and maybe body language to convey meaning fully, doesn't it?
Right. Maybe tone wouldn't hurt, Sandy.
My last post was in reply to your preceding statement, in which you said you'd "assumed... a disagreement."
That's all.

Talk about late. This is the proverbial ether. I thought the "perch" might have been swimming in the pond not the vantage point.
Ah, the English language. A poets challenge and opportunity. Sorry that ol' Wilburforce couldn't be found to jump into the breach earlier.
Was it #3 which gave you trouble Misty? Me too until the obvious BEAVER. V8 can slap, eh. Then pulling VERY out, then ABLE left CAPE.
Pun wise, average but better than some .

PS. I agree, Sandy's "Sorry" is conversational. But, sorry, I agree with OMK but punnability is indeed so relative and subjective.
I took some caffeine inadvertently and thus...
