C-eh, re. The name for your newly sober gal. Lois has a friend, Holly, a cousin apparently. They'd squabbled in the past but became bosom buddies at Nora's shindig.
Now she'll be maid of honor
Perhaps she's the one who sought recovery in the halls which explains the complete turnaround

FLN, CEh! ~ Your protagonist’s “little decision” is actually a mighty big one, isn’t it?
She certainly seems to be taking the right steps (toward those 12 steps).
I am glad for her sake that she has found a “site.”

Today’s Jumble haiku:
A chronic ailment overwhelms a transitory one, as a mechanical eraser removes much (if not all) of winter’s mark.
Allow the epigram (below) to express the fluctuations of fortune’s circle.
”Flux (of) the Wheel”
Asthma diverts my
sneezes, as my car’s wipers
turn slosh* into streaks.
~ OMK
___________
* Variant of “slush”
Not Ideal
Rain water sloshed down the street,
The wipers swished in vain,
To divert the deluge.
Tears scalded Holly’s cheeks,
And she wheezed as her asthma worsened.
It would be impossible to make the meeting.
What’s the sponsor’s phone number?
WC- I smiled at your “red hot”. And I answered the call to name She. Holly is a great name (Christmas birthday?)
OMK- As in real life, Holly is coming up against some difficulties in her path to recovery. We shall see how things go.
Perhaps an example of your “fluctuations of fortune’s circle”.
"Tough Life"
Wendy needed a wiper
for changing her baby's diaper.
Her life was no longer posh
as through many troubles she'd slosh.
Her asthma made her divert
any chores with contact with dirt.
Through many problems she'd reel,
but in the end she said "What's the deal?
I just want my life to heal."
Here is the Holky saga from 2021. Thursday, 6/23/22
_holly, doily, aviary, cajole, "lively-hood".
—--------
Nora's place was a favorite abode for her niece, Lois
For her with the foliage and and conures in the aviary
Plus neat doilies laid out it was like being in the realm of faerie
All was peaceful at Nora's, and nothing was ever amiss
Except perhaps Holly, Nora's niece from the other side of the family
Lois hoped that she wouldn't rekindle past feuds and worthless enmity
Perhaps this was prime ninth step atonement time , a God-spot
Chet had been cajoling her to make amends which had come to naught.
Chet had his own agenda and needed to corner Charles if he could
For to Uncle Charles he owed thanks for his current livelihood

Wicked headache
—---------
And there was Holly across the patio, barely the width of the yard
Chet gave Lois a nudge and whispered wickedly, 'It won't be so hard'
Lois was seized with a sudden headache accented by a surge of fear
"I won't kneel to the bitch" she thought, and said
"So nice to see you, Holly , my dear".

Deterred
—-------------
As Lois walked towards cousin Holly she thought 'Once bit twice shy"
Chet murmured, don't be deterred it's always hard the first try
Holly was dressed in typical fashion wearing a radish colored jersey
That struck a particular vhord as Lois prayed. 'God have mercy'
Her elders in AA had advised: "Deary, make your tale short and sweet"
Lately, Lois had a one track mind, "Any success will be bittersweet"

_ounce, shyly, pebble, flaunt, best of (the) bunch.
—--------------
It took the last ounce of courage for Lois to approach cousin Holly.
Thought Lois, "This pebble in my shoe must be expunged, by golly"
"That's a beautiful shirt, Holly, I just love the hue"
"Lois!", said Holly, so glad your here. Come closer in view"
"You always were the best of the bunch, cousins that is. Your aunt
Was Bettie, as I recall. Memory is one trait that I can hardly flaunt"
Chet was watching from across the way, near the terrace
He nearly spilled his root beer when he saw the pair in a warm embrace

I see it was just last June. Time flies.
You did it again, Ol' Man Keith, turned all the Jumble words and solution into a delightful haiku--many thanks! And I love the effects of asthma causing sneezes in a car.
Oh dear, how sad that poor Holly has to travel to her sponsor while the rain is making her asthma worse. I hope she makes it okay and doesn't become even more ill, CanadianEh!.
Well, it sure was worrisome to have to wonder how the meeting of Lois and Holly could possibly work out peacefully, given both of their anxieties. But surprisingly their first greeting was lovely. So we'll have to keep our fingers crossed that the good spirit continues during their meeting. Many thanks for seeing them through their dilemma so far, Wilbur.
Wordle 467 Hint: One syllable, one vowel, a verb;
“I must be careful not to splash this hot liquid: it can _____! Yeow!!”

Again, we went for similar imagery, CanadianEh!.
You managed rather neatly to apply yours to current events in your character’s life. Nice going!
And yes, I believe it is an example of the vicissitudes referenced by my little fortune cookie.
Misty ~ Poor Wendy. How depressing to read how depressed she is feeling!
Afflicted with asthma and stuck in a rut as a (presumably) single mom with all those duties & chores…
I hope she will soon find consolation in the inevitable “flux of (fortune’s) wheel”!
~ OMK
Woohoo! Thanks to your helpful hint, OMK, I was able to get today's Wordle on my first try: Wordle 467 1/6
🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩
Thank you so much for this help, and this gift.
I'll suggest to Wendy that she should maybe try some Wordle. It doesn't cost anything, and even if it doesn't pay anything, it might distract her from her woes.
Thank the gods ye be such a mindful archivist, Wilbur!
I had already forgotten the history of these two femmes. But your careful display of their past interactions makes it easy to appreciate what’s going on, both on the surface & beneath.
I like how Lois’ commitment to “expunging the pebble” turned into a “warm (nearly heated?) embrace.”
Whew, these ladies!

There's more Holly talk

(The) greedy agreed
—------
[Chet catches up to Lois]
"The big wedding idea feels like wading through muddy water"
"Oh, Chet" Lois exclaimed, "Nora says I'm like her long lost daughter
Aren't you thrilled? All the gentry will come from every corner
And get this! Remember Holly? She's to be my maid of honor"
Later it was alleged that Chet nearly fainted when he heard this news
Not that he was greedy but all agreed later he was thoroughly bemused
But his 12 Step Program had taught him 'Easy does it, Pause and Pray"
Interrupted by Lois: "Semi - casual will be the theme. Wear your beret".
WC
Ah, how wonderful to have more background info on Holly.
Thanks WC.
Misty- poor Wendy. I hope her life does heal . . . and perhaps that baby had a scalding diaper rash that needs to heal too.

And of course you know my methods
[Letter to Misty from Lois]
I'm so proud that you've taken an interest in my progress vis a vis
My coming nuptials with Chet. As you know I love him to pieces
I can't wait to make it legal for I'm all aflame - there's nobody any cuter
And so smart! He was the lead speaker and he'd make a great orator.
My palms were sweating as I held the reading for the day
But it was all worth it in the end as I held his hand to pray*
* AA custom is to join hands for a closing prayer, Often the Our Father

I meant to wait and post this later today. If you see it before seeing the Friday J's you can try to guess the words and riddle-solution
