The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.

Maude the maid was a robot: a model twenty-zed.
She swept and washed and then, tidied up the bed.
She cost a pretty dollar, to the world she was new,
But lasted many years doing what she was "maid" to do!
But even robots age, and their wiring gets the fritz.
Maude was no exception, tiny gears were worn to bits.
Her circuitry grew tarnished from mopping up the floor,
Her battery was fading, needed charging more and more.
She started misbehaving, she'd hide a random shoe.
Her voice-box started sounding like a wounded mouth kazoo!
The time had come to turn her off, recycle her tomorrow.
So don't feel bad for twenty-zed, she'll be a newer model.
I like your optimism, Owen, looking forward to ever-improving robots in the train of Ms. 20-Z. I just finished Ian McEwan's Machines Like Me which has left me with seriously mixed feelings about our humanoid friends.
I'd choose your Maude any day.
Two of our dogs came back from their sessions with the groomer today looking mighty fine. I swear these groomers handle a lot of different customers, some far more exotic than the usual canine traffic. I heard they bathed an alligator once. I wouldn't be surprised to learn they'd wax polished one as well, or turned out a Bobcat pedicured, or maybe a Gnu curled.

My apologies, but for various reasons I'm not going to be jumbling for awhile. My best to all.
We will miss you, Sandyanon--I always enjoy your comments. Come back soon.
I can't believe I got this morning's Jumble without any cheating or problems. I did wonder if I had the second word correctly, but took a chance and it turned out to be right. And the solution was clever and fun. Loved the different outfits on the men in the cartoon--and did they really have tiled floors back then? Lots of fun, and your delightful--if slightly sad--poem pays a nice tribute to our new world, Owen.
Oh, Sandy, I'm so sorry to see you go 😢 I do hope you'll still check in once in a while, until you can return to our little group 🥺
We will sorely miss you, Sandy.
The best I Could do with #2 was OZARK. Wasn't there an Ozark Ike?
Was that ol' Amerigo Vespucci for whose maps our continents were named?
Contentious, thy name is Congress.
Btw, couldn't they have set a double negative rule as in five minutes or five DN's

To think I failed on a five letter J
Also...
OMK thanks for the tip on Ewan McEwan and his latest. Apparently he has a vivid imagination and the writing talent to take you on his journey.
What journey have I been on to miss him entirely. I don't even recognize the movies.

I shall miss you too, Sandy, very much! --along with your sometimes feisty takes on our postings, I hope you'll soon resolve whatever's keeping you away & hurry back to us, to reclaim your place of honor.
As I look back over my choice for today's hint, I see now that I should have settled on the pure homophones, perhaps based on the notion of a carousel of wild beasts, including a Gnu, whirled...
Ah, well.
