The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.

Good hedges make good neighbors.
Each trimming his own side divides the labors.
They help dispel the odors of ones gumbo.
They hide the eyesores of the others jumble.
No branch should be removed, lest it get skinny.
A neighbor may be a friend, nae an enemy.
I loved this morning's Jumble! Got all four words without a moment's hesitation, and the solution just popped right up, of course. And liked the neat cartoon with the folks in the background in front of house and fences everywhere. And then the final treat was finding all the words woven into your poem, Owen--many thanks for that, as always.
Have a good day, everybody.
A happy jumble with a friendly solution.
A sweet photo, Owen!

Very much like your poem, Owen, including the literary allusion.
The jumble was quite easy, I thought, including the solution, which came clear immediately on getting all the clue letters.
I always like your alternate choices of cartoons, but in this case, I think the newspaper version was a bit more connected to the caption and solution.
I've been catching up on my newspapers. Two xwords today. Yes, this one was easy. Whinny, whinny.
