The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.

Ninety minutes, an hour and a half,
That was how long this torture would last.
If I hadn't a sweet tooth that didn't stop
I wouldn't be in this dentist-chair spot!
This is going to hurt, it's going to be messy.
But no use opposing, it's necessary.
The drill starts to twirl, the sound of the hum
Is a prelude to the pain that's to come!
This poem makes me wince. I had a sweet tooth and an over-indulgent mother, and so had to have all my teeth extracted over a period of weeks my senior high-school year. The agony! George Washington went thru the same ordeal at about the same age. Fortunately, I got better choppers than he did.
Your story makes me wince. Can't really empathize, since I've always had pretty good teeth. But even trying to imagine what it would be like to lose all your teeth as a teenager is painful. I hope writing the poem was cathartic.
Oh yeah, the jumble was very easy today.
That was me, Sandyanon. Don't know what's happened.
Oh dear, what an incredibly sad story, Owen, backing up that incredibly sad poem. So sorry to hear about that. I too started losing teeth in my teens because the cheap dentist my Dad got us did such a poor job, and couldn't extract wisdom teeth, etc. But when I got my first teaching job I found a good dentist and have had good treatment ever since, thank goodness.
Anyway, the Jumble cartoon was a delight, especially in its bright, sparkly color version. I got all four words easily as well as the solution--a blessing on a Monday when the Kenken, of all things, gave me a bit of trouble. Have a good day, everybody.
I agree with Misty that the cartoon colors are delightfully vivid!
The candy--maybe the ultimate villain behind Owen's dental agony?--is today's chief clue for those who want to be hot.
